This 11th
century Madonna was separated from the Christ child figure placed on her lap.
All that remained to indicate that a figure had been there was the inset hole
in the lap of the Madonna. Research was done as to the style and techniques of
the period prior to designing the new Christ child figure. The new Christ child figure was carved from bass wood and coated with gesso prior to applying the gold. After the gold leaf had cured, the hands and face were painted in a similar style. All the techniques used in the making of the new figure were identical to the original Madonna. The figure was then distressed to adjust the patina to match the main figure. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
