Victorian Period Mahogany TableView progress: 1 | 2

This wonderful Victorian period occasional table arrived with a long history of previous restorations. Joins were misaligned and failing. Various parts were improperly placed and two filets were missing. The table was literally falling apart, which in turn, made it a little easier to disassemble all the elements and begin reconstruction more properly.

After clearing all the joins from previous adhesives, dowels, epoxies, fillers, and accretions, the splits were secured and damaged dowels were replaced. Reconstruction was accomplished with traditional hide glue, used for both its durability and reversibility. A latex mold was created from an existing filet in order to fabricate two new filets cast from epoxy resins. After filling and retouching, minor scratches were finished with a final polishing of wax.
