Papier Mache TableView progress: 1 | 2

This Victorian era lacquer ware papier mache table had sustained structural damage to the base and to the apron around the top. The top is inlaid with mother-of-pearl and hand painted with a floral and leaf designs accented by gold leaf trim around the fluted edge. The broken pieces and the base were reconstructed and the top was reattached. The chips were filled and touched up to match the original finish. The table may now resume gentle service.

The wooden artifacts and furniture department provide conservation services for a wide variety of items in addition to furniture. This includes Santos figures, decorative boxes, lacquer ware, oriental screens, and Boulle objects. Chairs and tables that wobble or have breaks can be stabilized and returned to useful condition. Attaching or replacing veneers, inlay and marquetry, and gilding are special areas of expertise. Missing sections or areas can be hand carved or fabricated to match the original. Water stained or damaged finishes can be reintegrated.
